Additional information
The heart of "SISU meets UBUNTU 2023" lies in the convergence of two powerful cultural philosophies—the Finnish concept of 'Sisu,' representing strength of will, and the South African principle of 'Ubuntu,' embodying humanity to others. This groundbreaking project seeks to foster a unique interaction between young musicians from the northern and southern hemispheres, whose lives are intricately woven with the thread of music and an attitude akin to Sisu and Ubuntu. The collaboration unfolds through the universal language of music-making, where the harmonies of Sisu and Ubuntu intertwine. These passionate young musicians, united by their dedication to music and shared values, will embark on a transformative journey of collaboration. Together, they will craft, rehearse, and deliver a concert that transcends geographical boundaries, resonating with diverse audiences. The genesis of this collaboration initiates through virtual Zoom meetings in March 2023, setting the stage for cross-cultural connections. The culmination will take place in Pretoria, South Africa, in May 2023, where the musicians will gather physically to bring their collaborative compositions to life. Throughout this musical odyssey, seasoned music educators from both Finland and South Africa will provide invaluable mentorship, guiding the participants in their exploration of Sisu and Ubuntu through the language of music. This ambitious project is made possible through the coordinated efforts and generous support of the Embassy of Finland in South Africa, Näppärit ry, and Lumoke. Collaborating organizations include Sibelius Academy, Näppärit, and Youth Orchestra Johannesburg, further emphasizing the global synergy envisioned by "SISU meets UBUNTU 2023." Together, these partners aim to create an immersive and enriching experience, bridging cultures and fostering a deeper understanding of the strength of will and humanity to others.
