Description of activity
Heidi Henriikka Mäkelä (PhD, MMus, title of Docent) works as a lecturer in folk music at the University of the Arts Helsinki. She specialises in the research of Kalevala-metric oral poetry and singing, and the entanglements of folk music and intangible cultural heritage. In addition, her research interests include folklore, nationalism, cultural appropriation, landscape, spirituality, and medievalism.
Mäkelä also works as a researcher at the Finnish Literature Society research department. Her research project "Lokal eller nationell kulturarvsgemenskap? Svenskspråkighet och finlandssvenskhet i Wiki-förteckning över levande kulturarv i Finland" (2026–2029) is funded by Svenska Litteratursällskapet.
